About Peer Helpers

Peer Helpers in Purple Star Schools are student-led teams that provide a welcoming, supportive "buddy system" and mentorship for newly arrived military-connected students, helping them with transitions, school navigation, and social integration, often working alongside designated Military Family Liaisons to address the unique challenges military families face, such as frequent moves and deployments.

Key Roles

  • Buddy System: Pair with new military students for campus tours, introductions, and help with resources.
  • Mentorship: Offer guidance and support, acting as advocates for positive school experiences.
  • Transition Support: Help ease the stress of moving between schools and communities.
  • Promote Belonging: Foster an inclusive environment where military kids feel connected and valued.
